Description

ProVocative is a micro pitch-shift plug-in designed for quick results, featuring low CPU usage and high sound quality. It includes high- and low-pass filters for frequency-specific pitch shifting, track widening, and independent wet/dry mix controls. While micro pitch-shifting has existed for decades, Boz Digital created ProVocative to improve upon its traditional functionality. Its filters, width control, and wet/dry knobs allow users to add thickness or air to vocals without sounding robotic, subtly or aggressively widen instruments, and easily mix the wet and dry signals.

Provocative Cracking The Code

ProVocative is an inspired new version of a legendary micro pitch-shifter, known for being complicated to use despite its ubiquity in studios. Because of the complexity, two go-to presets emerged: 231 for vocal thickening and 521 for depth and widening using pitch-shifting combined with slap delay. ProVocative aims to provide the same great results quickly, without the need for extensive tweaking.

Mixer Section

ProVocative provides individual wet and dry knobs for parallel processing when used as an insert effect. Engaging the link button gangs these knobs together to act like a single wet/dry mix control.

Filter Section

The high- and low-pass filter section is ProVocative’s unique addition, enabling users to select the frequency range for micro-shifting via a slider. These filters, which can be bypassed or enabled by clicking the HPF or LPF symbols, only EQ the wet sound. This feature allows users to thicken or widen a specific frequency range while maintaining a more natural overall sound.

Width

The width control manages the widening of the pitch-shifted tracks. Positive 100% pans the pitch-shifted track to the right, negative 100% pans it to the left, and 0% pans both tracks to the center.

Pitch

The pitch control ranges from 1 to 20 cents. ProVocative creates two pitch-shifted tracks: one up and one down by the selected amount.

Delay

The delay knob, ranging from 20ms to 150ms, controls the delay between the dry and pitch-shifted tracks to create depth. A slight modulation is applied to the delay time for a more natural sound. ProVocative also includes shareable presets and an A/B bank for comparing settings.
