Description
PS-3300 is a virtual analog emulation of Korg’s semi-modular polyphonic synthesizer from 1977. Cherry Audio has faithfully recreated this rare and legendary synth, including its massive sound, signature resonator sweeps, and extensive patching capabilities.
Big In Japan… And Everywhere Else
The Korg PS-3300 was a massive and expensive synthesizer produced between 1977 and 1981, with only about 50 units ever made. Its semi-modular design and flexible architecture for rich, evolving timbres have earned it the reputation of the “holy grail of polyphonic analog synths.” Its unique architecture includes three independent “signal generator” panels, each a complete polyphonic synthesizer. Each panel features 12 individually tunable oscillator banks, filters, envelopes, and VCAs for every note, allowing all 48 keys to be played simultaneously with independent articulation. Dual LFOs and triple voltage-controllable resonators further shape its distinctive tone.
Dedicated Master Panel
A master panel features a mixer, sample & hold, an envelope generator, and two CV processors. Its 67 front-panel jacks offer extensive modulation possibilities. The PS-3300’s high production cost made it a highly sought-after instrument by artists like Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre, and Aphex Twin, due to its broad and bold sound. Originally priced at $7,500, a unit sold for nearly $100,000 in 2021, highlighting its rarity and mystique.
