Description

Eventide SplitEQ is a parametric EQ with 8 bands of musical filters. Its unique Structural Split engine divides incoming audio into separate Transient and Tonal streams. These streams then feed the 8 bands of the “Split” parametric EQ.

Structural Split

The core of SplitEQ separates incoming audio into two distinct streams:

  • Transient (Noise, plosives, sibilance, attacks)
  • Tonal (Sustained notes, harmonics, tone, ambience)

8-Band Parametric EQ

The filters in SplitEQ are pristine and musical, and the user interface is designed to streamline workflow. This allows you to add sheen to vocals without harshness and enhance acoustic guitar harmonics while reducing string buzz.

Stereo Imaging

Each of the eight bands features continuous L/R or Mid/Side panning for the Transient and Tonal components.

Graphical Display

The plug-in includes a high-resolution, real-time spectrum analysis of the audio components, with options for monitoring and comparison. SplitEQ also has Peak and RMS metering.

Enhance

With independent control of Transient and Tonal elements, SplitEQ can be used to add punch, detail, sheen, breathiness, and tightness to an instrument.

Repair

SplitEQ is a unique audio repair tool that allows you to surgically tune the Transient and Tonal responses independently. For example, you can remove a kick drum’s boom while keeping its thump.

Rebalance

This EQ allows for versatile track placement in a mix. You can perform tasks not possible with other EQs, such as softening guitar strums while boosting cab reverb.

Widen

SplitEQ enables precise multi-band stereo image manipulation of the Transient and Tonal elements within each frequency band. Both L/R and Mid/Side panning are supported, allowing you to spatialize a beat in new ways.

This has become my new favorite equalizer. It’s perfect for sound design, enhancing audio, and managing stereo placement.

I’ve just started using this EQ, and the presets alone provide fantastic results for mixing vocals, guitars, bass, drums, and more. If you want to fine-tune the sound, it’s easy to adjust to your preferences, and you can always revert to the excellent presets as a starting point. It offers the flexibility to EQ both the tone and transients separately, making it an incredibly powerful tool
