Description

The Oberheim OB-E is a software emulation of the iconic Oberheim 8-Voice, personally endorsed by Tom Oberheim. It replicates the unique Octaphonic architecture of the original, which uses eight monophonic Synthesizer Expander Modules (SEMs) to create an eight-note polyphonic synthesizer. Each SEM contains two VCOs, two ADS envelope generators, an LFO, and a Multi-Mode Filter, providing a huge, authentic sound with fresh creative possibilities.

An Augmented Yet Authentic Instrument

The OB-E meticulously emulates every section of the synth, offering software control over all eight SEMs. It includes Mono, Mono Legato, Poly, Unison, and Split keyboard modes, and adds a new VCO3 that can act as an audio rate LFO for each SEM. The instrument also supports performance controls like velocity, polyphonic after-touch, and MPE.

A Collaboration With Oberheim And New ‘Vintage’ Control

In collaboration with Tom Oberheim and Marcus Ryle, the OB-E received a v2 update with their full endorsement. This update refined the Detune feature and introduced a new Vintage control, which adds realistic musical inaccuracies to mimic the original hardware, ensuring a truly authentic 8-Voice experience.

New In Ob-e V2 (Now Macos & Windows)

The enhanced OB-E V2 is a precise emulation of the Oberheim 8-Voice, now available for both macOS and Windows. The update includes a new reverb, over 100 new Patches (for a total of more than 700), a Zoom function for the sequencer, and a new Drum Mode that allows each SEM to be triggered by a dedicated key, along with 10 drum kit presets.

Creative Sequencer, Stereo Delay & Reverb

The OB-E features a comprehensive 8-step Sequencer, providing flexibility beyond the original hardware. In Split mode, the sequencer can be routed to SEM 8 to create a three-part soundscape within a single Patch. An all-new routable Stereo Delay and a lush Reverb are also included to complement the sound.

More Than Eight Voices Put Together

The beauty of the 8-Voice sound comes from the interaction of its eight independent, slightly different SEMs. The OB-E replicates these authentic inaccuracies in each SEM, blurring the lines between software and hardware to create the most authentic emulation of the Oberheim SEM sound. The instrument comes with over 700 factory Patches designed by professional sound designers, all tagged and categorised for easy access via the librarian.
