Description

The plug-in’s facilities are similar to the British Channel, but the original hardware’s circuit design was more modern, focusing on high bandwidth and signal to noise ratio. Special attention was paid to closely match these features in this model.

Product Overview

As in its vintage sibling, the EQ section features a dual-mode operation for maximum flexibility and tone, allowing access to Black and Brown circuit designs on the fly (reflected by the low shelf EQ knob color).

Gate-Expander And Dynamics

The gate-expander/dynamics section offers full control and flexibility, allowing placement before or after the EQ section, or use in sidechain mode with the EQ or filter section. This flexibility is key, as compression placed before or after EQ can dramatically alter a track’s sound; for example, radical EQ changes (like boosting low end) before compression will change how the compressor senses frequencies and reacts. This feature is highly effective for shaping a track’s sound, which is often necessary in mixing.

Using Gating

Gating is very effective for controlling noisy tracks, especially on drums and percussion to reduce excessive bleed between adjacent channels in a multi-mic’d kit. The wealth of controls allows reducing unwanted noise between channels, like toms, to a more manageable level while keeping enough bleed to add fullness. Extreme settings can also abruptly cut out tails or low-level noises for more precise tracks. It is also very useful for giving percussive tracks a sharp attack and snap. Countless Hip Hop and R&B hits were crafted on the console this processor was based on; its extended bandwidth makes it perfect on drums, guitars, bass, and any track needing a full set of controls in one module.
