Description

Punctuate is a multi-band transient modulator based on the Transient Emphasis section of the Elevate Mastering Limiter. Its algorithms allow you to control the transient emphasis or suppression of all 26 critical bands with just 4 controls. Unlike traditional transient shapers that work on the whole signal, Punctuate modulates the frequency range where the transient snap occurs. This provides powerful and precise control over the attack of instruments, buses, and mixes.

You Can:

• Adjust the volume of drums within an entire mix.
• Increase the kick drum’s presence without affecting the bass.
• Isolate hi-hats from a snare mic.
• Increase the snare’s crack while decreasing its thump.
• Bring instruments like acoustic guitars and pianos forward or push them back in the mix.
• Revitalize dull or over-compressed mixes.

Science Behind Punctuate

Punctuate is based on the Mel Scale, which divides auditory frequency bands to mimic human hearing. Unlike traditional EQs that use IIR filters which can affect adjacent bands, Punctuate uses linear phase FIR filters. This ensures that what you see on the screen is an accurate representation of the sound, with no unwanted side effects.

Adaptive Transient

Punctuate uses triangularly shaped FIR filters, similar to the critical bands in the inner ear. These filters break the audio signal into 26 critical bands, and a transient shaper runs on each band. This allows you to add punch only where needed and even emphasize transients in some bands while suppressing them in others. Because it’s based on Critical Bands, the processing sounds natural and artifact-free. The ADAPTIVE TRANSIENT control lets you smooth the transient modulation across bands, providing independent control or coupling for a smoother sound.
