Description

Hive 2 is a powerful synthesizer with a sleek exterior that allows for deep sound design. It features a shape sequencer for adding movement and a 12-slot matrix for modulating effect parameters. With its swappable audio engine, flexible signal routing, wavetable support, and quality effects, Hive 2 is designed to help you get the sound you want efficiently.

Sleek, Streamlined, Supercharged

Hive 2 now includes wavetables, which appear as multiple waveforms in a central hexagon. You can select wavetables manually, modulate their position via the matrix, or animate them automatically using the envelope and loop options without needing an extra modulation source.

Multi-Table With U-He Hive 2

Wavetables can be split into up to 16 parts, creating a 2-dimensional oscillator. For example, a 30-frame wavetable can be split into 3 x 10 frames, with the lower Position knob crossfading between the three parts. This feature allows for a second dimension of wavetable scanning, like velocity crossfade or multisample support.

UHM Scripting

For advanced users, many of Hive’s factory wavetables are “.uhm” files containing scripts. These scripts are written in a proprietary language for wavetable generation and manipulation, allowing users to create their own custom scripts.

Interpolation

Hive 2 offers four interpolation algorithms for crossfading between wavetable frames: switch, crossfade, spectral, and zero phase. These algorithms affect the appearance and CPU usage of the waveforms, with the spectral and zero phase modes shifting the relative phases of partials, while the switch option shows non-interpolated waveforms.

U-He Hive 2 Shape Sequencer

The Shape Sequencer allows you to create complex rhythmic patterns and modulations. It has four independent Shape Modulator lanes (A, B, C, and D) that can be trigger and run at different speeds. The sequencer provides a fun and comfortable way to ‘gamify’ rhythm creation and offers more functionality than its appearance suggests.

Function Generators

Hive’s Function Generators combine simple envelope functionality with LFO, slew limiter, and gate control. Each of the three outputs has a ‘crosshair’ for drag-and-drop modulation assignment. They can be triggered and modulated by the LFOs and the Shape Sequencer to create complex motion effects.
